"He who learns must suffer. And even in our sleep pain that cannot forget falls drop by drop upon the heart, and in our own despair, against our will, comes wisdom to us by the awful grace of God.

Ashtanga Yoga is an ancient system of yoga passed down from Sri T. Krishnamacharya to Sri K. Pattabhi Jois beginning in 1927. Pattabhi Jois (known as Guruji) is the master of the Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga system today and head of the Ashtanga Yoga Research Institute in Mysore, India. He is responsible for Ashtanga's transmission to the west. His grandson, Sharath Rangaswamy, is the assistant director of the A.Y.R.I. and teaches with his Grandfather.

Ashtanga Yoga is a powerful sequence of Hatha postures practiced continually (vinyasa) in combination with bandhas (internal muscle contractions), ujjayi breath and drishti (focused gaze).

I have returned to Austin, Texas from living and teaching in Taipei, Taiwan and will have a full teaching schedule starting in January 2008 at YogaYoga.
